About

It was September 1996. I’m standing waiting to get into an elevator (leaving my attorney’s office of all places), and I got the call. I pick up and the nice lady on the other end of the phone says, “the money just hit your account”. I asked her “for real”? Her reply, “yes, the money is in your account”.
I proceeded to get into the elevator, and with no one in there with me, I let out a loud “YES!”.
It was on that day in September of 1996 that I sold my first business. It was an online industry specific trade journal that I ended up selling to a large trade publication. It was also on that day that I decided that I loved building businesses and that I wanted to do it for the rest of my life.
Fast-forward a few years and my second child was born. I found myself with 2 great kids - both under the age of 3 and both not willing to keep the house quite while I tried to work. At that point in time, I was involved of a turn-around of a manufacturing company I purchased. I had also just gotten out of the hospital after having a heart attack and almost dying.
Times were stressful because the business was not going as I had planned. My plan was good and I was working my plan, however things just weren’t working out. Headstrong as I am, I decided to take a 1 week retreat and do one of those Bill Gates (think Microsoft), “think week’s”. I put myself into seclusion, read some books, articles, etc. and took the proverbial “step back” as I tried to figure out how to turn my business around.
Looking back on this 1 week period, it was probably one of the best things I ever did. From that moment until today, our business has been on the fast track. We’ve had exponential growth that has taken us farther than I could have ever imagined, and the future looks VERY bright for our manufacturing company.
I tell you this brief story as a way to explain why I publish this website.
I started this website for my kids. I did it as a way to convey all that I have learned and will learn on my journey as a business professional. While I hope and assume that my kids will go to college one day, I wanted to give them all of the tools, tips, trick, ideas, and suggestions that I have been lucky enough to gather while building businesses, talking with other business professionals, sitting in board meetings, sharing experiences, and so much more.
It’s my hope that as I document my ideas regarding business for my kids so that one day they can benefit from these, you too can take some of these “Ideas For Your Biz” as well.
Enjoy the site.
